December 7, 1941, the day that lives in infamy, reminds us of the accomplishments of the World War II generation. Prior to 1941, the US was facing unemployment somewhere between 15 and 20%, and suffering from one of the biggest economic collapses in world history. My parents and their fellow American’s resolve and tenacity was, and still is, remarkable . They faced such profound adversity from nearly every direction. They not only survived America’s darkest hour, they ensured that future generations could thrive. With the blood, sweat, and tears of the “greatest generation”, the freedoms that we take advantage of today were made possible.

Today, we too are facing serious economic and national security challenges, and I know that with effective leadership and an unyielding resolve, we too can emerge as the next great generation and preserve this great Union for our children and grandchildren.
