Betty Bean recently attended the Magnolia Café Meet and Greet for Randy Walker and published an excellent article in the September 6, 2010 edition of Shopper News . The Link is: http://www.shoppernewsnow.com/aBean.aspx
Bean discussed bipartisan support that is building for Randy in his State Senate campaign.
Some excerpts from the article entitled Republicans for Randy include:
City Council member Daniel Brown introduced him as “a husband, a father, a church man who’s active in his community. He’s a good solid citizen. His opponent has been an embarrassment to this state and this city.”

When Walker spoke, he predicted that this election will “transcend party politics” and hammered on his themes of jobs, public safety and public education.
“I’m a family person. I’m a PTA person. I’m from here, not from New York. I have put deals together to bring businesses to the state of Tennessee.”

Bean also wrote about an interview she had with Randy at the event.
Two Saturdays ago, Walker spent the day calling Republicans. He worked from a targeted list and says the results were encouraging. “Eighty five percent of them were receptive,” he said. “A lot of people I left messages for called me back. Others sent word that they’d be voting for me.”

From the Campaign of Randy Walker for State Senate District 7
Randy Walker will be out at the polls tomorrow visiting with and listening to the constituents of District 7 in Knox County. Randy will be at the Democratic Headquarters at 311 Morgan Street at 5:30 PM and at 8 PM and available for interviews at those times. “Jobs, job creation and providing Knoxvillians with economic opportunities are really the only issues on the minds of voters in today’s tough economy. Regardless of whom my opponent is, my campaign is going to be about focusing on the concerns of Knoxvillians and bringing good, high-paying jobs to Knoxville. I don’t think people want to hear about Rs and Ds they want to hear about J-O-Bs”

The past two weeks have proven significant in terms of momentum for the Campaign. First, a hugely successful fundraiser was held at Baker Peters Jazz Club that attracted over 100 supporters from both the GOP and Democratic Party. I was also warmly welcomed at the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce Peelin’, Eatin’ and Politickin’ reception where I had the opportunity to listen to Knoxville’s business leaders discuss their ideas for economic growth and job development. I also had the opportunity to meet with some of East Tennessee’s working people and I was honored to receive the endorsements of the Knoxville Building Trades Association and the Tennessee AFL-CIO Labor Council.
“Common sense for a change means putting the people of Knoxville’s’ agenda first and not the agenda of a corporate lobbyist”, the theme of my talk at the annual Knoxville Democratic Party’s Truman Day’s 300 strong audience. I really felt the energy in the crowd and I am now more convinced than ever that the good people of Knoxville do not want a Senator who focuses on Rs and Ds….they want a Senator who focuses on J-O-Bs.
Finally please allow me to gloat over my best endorsement yet, my lifelong Republican Aunt Roxie, Uncle Candler and Uncle Jack show their support (see attached Photo) for their favorite Democrat at the Crittenden-Smith family reunion in McMinn County last Saturday. These are folks who know me best and who have instilled in me my East Tennessee values and morals.

On this Memorial Day, I remember those who sacrificed to make my life better. I remember the stories that my father would tell about men he served with during WWII that didn’t make it back. But Memorial Day also leaves another memory in our family. One that keeps our hearts heavy to this day. My beloved Mother-in-law, the Reverend Elizabeth Perry left this world on this weekend 12 years ago.
In the late 1990s, my mother-in-law Elizabeth’s health began to deteriorate at an alarming rate. Years of mission trips to hostile countries, while she tried to bring the word of Jesus Christ to those who had never heard of him, had finally taken their toll causing her blindness, kidney failure and heart disease. She had health insurance and a retirement, but in an all too familiar story, it failed to cover her extensive medical expenses and her round the clock care expenses.
A fighter until the end, she suffered through 7 years of dialysis while also leading a life completely in shadows. I learned what fighting was all about from her. She never once allowed anyone to pity her and, whenever possible, she would preach the gospel to anyone who wanted to hear it. Her laughter was contagious and even in her decrepit state, no one could crack up a room like Elizabeth. As the years passed, her retirement shrunk to nothing and the medical bills began to pile up. Against her wishes, my family took on her expenses and continued to do so until the day she passed.
Looking back I would not change a thing about the care we gave Pastor Perry during her dying days. Unfortunately the financial strain on our single family income forced us into leveraging every asset we had. We lived paycheck to paycheck, sliding farther down into the hole of debt that we simply couldn’t get out of. Eventually, we were forced to file a Chapter 13 100% creditor recovery bankruptcy. After exhausting every alternative, it was the last resort we had. While it was a matter of public record, we never told our friends or family about our financial difficulties nor did we ask for help. We simply banded together as a family, worked harder and tightened our belt more to pay back our debts.
We were truly blessed because I have a good employer who worked with me through this financial hardship. I have no regrets as the experience galvanized the bond between myself and my family. There are moments in everyone’s life when they must choose a path and that decision changes their lives forever. This was one of those times in my life. It is because of this experience that I felt like I truly understood the plight of the middle class.
It is in my faith, the same faith that Elizabeth spent her life preaching, that I believe that those who can, must. Well friends and neighbors, I know that I can help bring back jobs to this area and with your help in November; I will set about accomplishing just that.
God bless you and yours and have a safe and fun Summer season.

As a child my parents were always good stewards of the environment. They were raised on the farm where the natural resources of the earth were your means of subsistence. My father was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and just being outside and he taught me what treasures we had here in East Tennessee with our mountains, lakes and streams. We are fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful places on our Earth.

It is incumbent on us to protect our beautiful home. We must always preserve and conserve because it is critical to our subsistence as well. So many people visit our beautiful mountains and so many people want to set up their homes and businesses here because of our natural beauty.

We must never let our environment become a political issue to be toyed with by the extremists on the right or the left. I know how I feel as an East Tennessean and I won’t allow it. Have a great Earth Day and do something for your natural environment today.

“Opportunity Knox” Elect Randy Walker State Senate

As Cindy, Christin, Jeremy and I have worked the campaign trail here in East Tennessee one message has come across loud and clear. East Tennesseans want to get back to work! Many of our current politicians and media pundits are focusing on everything but what the people want

Folks getting people back to work is my #1 priority. The prosperity and well being of all of the constituents of District 7 and East Tennessee are the driving force behind me every morning when I hit the campaign trail. I need your help though!

We have many campaign rallies, meet and greets and fundraisers planned. This week we will be at the Expo Center on Clinton Highway and Merchants Road meeting and greeting at the Candidates Forum. Come on out and talk with us or better yet help us spread our Opportunity Knox message of creating jobs for East Tennesseans. Click on the Events link on this website and keep up with future campaign happenings, then, please come out and support the people’s campaign for the election of Randy Walker to the Tennessee State Senate.

You can also help tremendously by making an immediate donation of $100, $50, $25, $10 or whatever you can to the campaign by clicking on the secured donate link on this website or sending a check to:
